Hoosick Falls could light the way with solar street lights
Imagine coming to our town for the first time and seeing solar street lights! Just imagine. What would you say about the town? You most likely would say, "this town cares about the environment." There are reasons why you should follow through with this idea. First, solar streetlights would be cheaper than electrical streetlights. Secondly, solar powered streetlights stay on even when the power goes out. Lastly, it will help the environment and perhaps even encourage other towns and cities to do the same, which is going green.
To convert to solar powered street lights may seem expensive, but over time, it would save the town money. Solar powered streetlights would use the sun, a natural resource, for power. The town would not have the extra expense of an electric bill. Solar street lights require little maintenance, therefore fewer bills. The money saved could be used for something else that we need as a community.
Another reason to convert to switch to solar street lighting is that it would help the environment. One big reason it would help the environment is that solar streetlights use light bulbs that could last up to for about 20 years! There would be less gas emissions ... this might help save animals that are becoming extinct from too much gas emissions.
Another reason to switch to solar streetlights is because they work even when there are power outages ... regular streetlights do not. When the power goes out, people tend to light candles to see. Candles can be very dangerous because they could lead to fires, but solar street lights people can just go outside. Or, converting to solar street lights could encourage other towns or cities. I know that the initial investment in solar street lighting may be seem steep. However this idea makes sense. Overtime, the conversation to solar street lighting would pay itself off, because there would be no more electrical bills to pay. Not only would the town save money, but more importantly we are saving the environment.
