The Punjab Governments Try to Save Power and Cost by Modifying the Existing Street Lights
The energy depletion is getting serious, the oil and coal is over mined today. In several years, we may have no oil or coal to use. So, many governments are trying to solve this problem. The Punjab government has decided to take a number of steps for conservation of energy at government offices throughout the province, According to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
No ACs and less street lighting: It was decided during the meeting that, “Air-conditioners at government offices will not be switched on before 11am while only 50 percent of lights will be used during working hours. Only one out of three street lights will be turned on in the province and all street lights will be switched off early in the morning.” The local government, TMAs and development agencies have been made responsible for the implementation of these orders. These orders would also be also be applicable to the residential colonies of government officers and unnecessary lights at all entry points of these colonies would also be switched off. It was also decided that the use of decorative lights on buildings, trees, fountains, canals, CNG stations, petrol pumps and major restaurants will be prohibited.
No frivolous lighting: Unnecessary lighting would not be allowed at marriage ceremonies and similarly there would be a ban on billboards, neon signs and hoardings operated on electricity and only solar energy could be used for this purpose. The PHA and the DCOs have been given the responsibity for making sure that these orders are properly implemented. The chief secretary also directed commissioners and other administrative officers to ensure implementation of these orders in offices and their respective areas. Staff report.
If replace all the existing street lights with solar street lights, we could save much more energy and bills without affecting normal life of citizen life.
