The 2010 World Cup Shining Green

While the South Africa preparing for the 2010 World Cup, more and more solar products are put into use. As the energy depletion is coming now, we are meaning to do some meaning things to saving our earth and our cities. As one of the world most famous pageant, the world cup is also trying to do more for energy saving. So the host of this World Cup is trying to use more solar street lights, the solar water heaters and many other solar products.

The FIFA 2010 shows us their green goal project. The three initiatives launched on Tuesday were: Greener lighting for World Cup host cities; green passport; and offsetting team’s emissions. Green Goal has now become a FIFA criterion for host nations to fulfill, and it was noted that Brazil had already approached South Africa to learn from the country's Green Goal experience.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup event was expected to generate some 2.7-million tons of greenhouse gas emissions, largely attributable to significant international air travel, as well as domestic travel. This was about eight times the size of the carbon footprint of the Germany World Cup.

The green goal project is the solution to this serious problem. The green goal project means: greener lighting, OFFSETTING TEAM EMISSIONS and GREEN PASSPORT.

The green lighting means that the host will provide great amount money for replacing the public street lights with solar street lights. And the traffic lights and billboards will also be replaced with green products.

OFFSETTING TEAM EMISSIONS aims to call their partner to use green technology. The Puma sportswear company would fund carbon offsetting for its sponsored teams, namely: Algeria, Cameroon, the Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Uruguay, Italy and Switzerland.

GREEN PASSPORT is the passport provided for visitors to encourage them to make responsible travel choices. And the solar product will also bring the knowledge of new green technology so that more people will enjoy green technology and save our world.
