TK 10 Cr Are Implemented In Solar Street Lights Project

As more and more cities using solar street lights instead of traditional street lights, the Environmentalists are trying to improve the coverage of solar street light to a high degree and they are also trying to improve the Lighting capability of the solar street lights.

A meeting of the Trustee Board on Climate Change Affairs yesterday approved nine projects, including a Tk 10 crore project for electrification by using solar energy for streets lights and offices in 10 upazilas and municipalities.

 

All nine projects involving a total amount of Tk 46.50 crore to be implemented by the government institutions are aimed at adapting to climate change.

The meeting held at the Forest and Environment Ministry with its state minister Dr Hasan Mahmud in the chair also approved another project titled Climate Change Trustee Fund Fellowship which was endorsed in principle at its last meeting.

 

Under the project, students studying in university would be given scholarships of Tk 7000 per month for a 2-year M Phil course and monthly Tk 10,000 for a 4-year Ph.D course.

The nine approved projects include community based adaptation in the ecologically critical areas through biodiversity conservation and social protection, institutional strengthening of climate change study cell at BUET for knowledge generation and human resources development, innovation and expansion of technology for paddy suitable to changed climate and improvement of food security system jointly by protecting crops from the adverse impact of climate change and increasing agricultural production through improving the system of agriculture weather forecasting and precautionary signal. The minister also said Tk 700 crore was allocated for Climate Change Trustee Fund for the current fiscal.

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, Food Minister Dr Abdur Razzak, Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhul Huq, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, State Minister for Water Resources Mahbubur Rahman and Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiar Rahman were the others present at the Trustee Board Meeting.

It seems that the popularity of solar street lighting is just around the corner. But we still have much work to do about it like improve the quality of the street street lights, Disseminate the knowledge about solar energy and many other things. So let’s try our best to protect our earth.
